Summary

     In the very popular novel Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden lies a story within a story. The outer most story is one of a young girl pulled from everything she knows and thrown into a family of strangers. She learns slowly how to adapt to her new surroundings. The inner story is one a of hardship and struggles and what it takes to become more then that. To become more then what the people around you label you as. These stories are intertwined to make the reader hungry for more. In the beginning a young girl has to sit by and watch her mother die, then she meets this mysterious man who takes her from her seaside little town to the city to become a geisha. Once there she learns that not everyone is as nice as the appear and their intentions aren't always in the right place. As the book continues the reader is drawn into Sayuri, the protagonist, struggles to find a foothold in this town.
